You know you can manually edit SimCraft with the gear you want, right?

Don't be rude, he'll update it when he updates it, and the primary reason he's doing so is he had already paid for server up through September. Anything he does before the shutdown is a bonus, especially considering that this is a free site that hardly anyone has made donations towards.

I don't mean to be rude as you are so very awesome for maintaining this site as long as you have but I'm just wondering where you've been LeMartin as I haven't seen a post or an update from you since April. An update to 4.2 if you can would make everyone here very happy and I'm happy to help with that in any way that I can as I'm sure many people here also would. We miss you! Please come back to us! :3

I think the truth is: He said mimimi nobody wants to help me.. but mmimi i am to lazy to give somebody the chance to help him and ... mimimi i will stop this project. its not very social, isn't it?
some people ask him for his code to update this project.. no answer. and he wrote he wants to give us updates until the server goes down... no action. i think this project is dead. rest in peace chardev.org i hope there will be another guy who has the time and the knowledge to start a project like this. |

I wouldn't go as far as Knuschel1979, but he's got a point on one thing - Martin really could share the code with others who would be able to continue this great tool, but obviously, he's not very interested in that - so he decided to (slowly) kill the project, much to the disappointment of everybody here.
While still hoping that Martin will change his mind, I have come across two similar sites; both are really worthwhile, at least as long as chardev.org is more or less unusable: The first one was mentioned here some time ago, it's wowreforge.com. This site has all the new items and it features an automatic optimizer which tells you exactly which item you have to reforge and how. First, you import your char data from The Armory, then you can change items, their gems and enchantments if you like, next you can input your personal caps to the secondary stats that are important to you (e.g. hit and exp for a DK), then hit "Optimize!" and voilĂ , the tool does the rest (it even shows you a couple of alternatives). The downside is that you don't see the changing main stats such as strength or DPS like in chardev. If this little thing would be improved, wowreforge would be the perfect replacement for chardev, at least for me. The second tool is called "Mr. Robot" (www.askmrrobot.com/wow/gear). It's actually almost like wowreforge.com, plus this baby actually shows you at least some of the changing main stats, except for overall DPS (which is bad in my case as I'm a damage dealer). Of course, it has a downside too: the optimization process always includes gems and enchantments, not only reforging. This means that you will end up with exchanging many of your gems and enchantments everytime you come across a new item. On the other side, it has a nice little feature that shows you something like a list of the ten best items per slot, so you really know which item to hunt down next. Me personally, I will stick with wowreforge.com for the time being. chardev.org features the best of all worlds (even if it doesn't have an "Optimize" feature), but wowreforge comes quite close. I'm looking forward to seeing your comments! Best, G. |

i haven't looked at wowreforge yet but I tried Mr. Robot and it looks okay but its not what I need. I'm not a pve'er but rather a pvp'er where optimal stat weights dont matter as much as in pve. I used to use chardev to see how much resil I could get while maintaining certain crit and mastery/haste thresholds. Being forced to optimize the gear i choose for pve is just not what i want. Chardev was always good about being a pure sandbox: you can equip whatever gear you want, put any reforges on it that you want next to whatever enchants and gems and see the results. The only other sandbox site that I've seen that does what I need it to (pve optimizers be damned) is WoWhead's profiler but the problem with that tool is that its having problems pulling together all the stat changes with reforges, gems and enchants and having the end stat results be accurate. But when they fix that, that will be where I will make my home.

You're totally right about the advantages of a sandbox tool, and that's exactly why chardev actually was the best tool of all. I would rather trash the "optimize" features if I had complete freedom in reforging, enchanting and gems.
But you should try wowreforge.com! It gives you complete control over the items you equip, the gems, the enchants, the stat weights and the caps - the only thing it does without the possibility of manual changes is the reforging itself. Yes, the Profiler on wowhead.com is a good idea, even though I miss (as I'm a DD) the DPS change info which is obviously the most important info for me, but unfortunately, you're also right about the accuracy. It's completely inaccurate! It shows "15 exp" on my char where it should show "24 exp" and so on, so it's completely unusable. Otherwise, I would agree with you, but due to the inaccuracy, I will stick to wowreforge.com. |

I did go and try wowreforge after my previous post and its pretty decent, I like that you set stat caps like you can with it and you have the freedom to choose your own gear, gems and enchants. I also liked that it gave you several different reforging scenarios to choose from. However I just couldnt get it to work with the caps that i set but that's probably not the fault of the site. One problem I did have with it was that if one of the caps wasnt hit rating, it would automatically try for raid hit cap which I don't need since I pvp. Do you know another way to get around this? Because I'd like to set my caps to other stats and not have one tied up in hit all the time just by default.
I also tried EJ's Rawr tool. It is pretty much the antithesis of pvp as it just doesnt acknowledge that resilience as a stat even so much as exists but in every other pve scenario it was pretty useful and is very close to a full sandbox program. It also gave the dps change info and things like that that I don't really need myself but that it sounds like you would appreciate. You should check it out :) |
